Frequently asked questions for Weirdo, the pro audio levels monitor for macOS.

Getting Started

What inputs work with Weirdo?
Any input device macOS can see. USB condensers, XLR interfaces, lavalier mics, Bluetooth headsets, and 32-channel interfaces all show up automatically.

How do I switch inputs?
Use the device picker at the top of the meter. Weirdo lists every channel each device exposes — useful for phone-style receivers that mix multiple lavs into a stereo bus.

What does the CLIP badge do?
It triggers the moment your signal hits 0 dB. Meters turn green to amber to red. Hit "Reset Peak" to clear.

Recording and Files

Where are recordings saved?
To the folder you pick on your Mac. Weirdo does not move files, sync them, or upload them.

What is the file naming pattern?
Files save as sequential takes, e.g. WEIRDO_001_LAV_1.wav, WEIRDO_001_BOOM.wav. Each detected input channel becomes its own mono 24-bit WAV.

Does Weirdo support post workflows?
Yes. ISO WAVs are designed for direct handoff to edit and post — no proprietary container.

Troubleshooting

The mic permission prompt did not appear.
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and confirm Weirdo is allowed.

The meters look frozen.
Confirm the right input device is selected, that no other app is using the input exclusively, and that the input gain is up at the OS level.
